About this tool

This tool turns the pages of a PDF into JPG or PNG images. You can convert every page or only the ones you pick, choose the resolution, and download each page on its own or all of them in one ZIP file.

The PDF is opened and drawn in your browser. Nothing is uploaded to a server, so the document stays on your device. Pages are drawn on a white background, and very large pages are scaled down so they stay within 8,000 pixels per side and 40 megapixels.

How to use it

  1. Drop a PDF onto the page, or choose one from your device. The file can be up to 100 MB, and the page count appears once it opens.
  2. Choose which pages to convert: all of them, or a selection such as 1-3, 5, 8- (the last one means page 8 to the end).
  3. Pick JPG or PNG, the resolution in DPI and, for JPG, the quality. The pixel size of the first page is shown before you start.
  4. Select Convert to images. Pages are drawn one at a time and a preview of each appears as it finishes.
  5. Download a single page with its Download button, or select Download all as ZIP to get every converted page in one file.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. The PDF is read and drawn by your browser, and the images are created on your device. Nothing is sent to a server. Closing or reloading the page discards the converted images.
Which DPI should I choose?
150 DPI suits most uses, such as reading on a screen or sharing a page. Use 72 or 96 DPI for small previews and thumbnails. Use 200 or 300 DPI when the image will be printed or when you need fine text to stay sharp. As a guide, an A4 page is about 1,240 x 1,754 pixels at 150 DPI and about 2,480 x 3,507 pixels at 300 DPI.
Why are some images so large?
File size grows with the pixel count, and the pixel count grows with the square of the DPI. A page at 300 DPI has four times as many pixels as the same page at 150 DPI. Large pages, such as posters and drawings, also produce large images, and PNG files are bigger than JPG files. To shrink the files, lower the DPI or use JPG with a lower quality.
Can I convert a password-protected PDF?
If a PDF needs a password to open, the tool asks for it and then converts the pages. The password is used only in your browser and is not stored. If you do not know the password, the PDF cannot be opened.
Can I still select or copy the text in the images?
No. Each page becomes a picture, so the text is no longer text. You cannot select, search or copy it, and screen readers cannot read it. If you need the text, keep the original PDF or copy it from there.
How many pages can I convert at once?
Up to 100 pages in one run, from a PDF of up to 100 MB. For a longer document, choose Selected pages and convert it in parts, for example 1-100 and then 101-200. Pages are drawn one after another, so a long run at a high DPI can take a while and uses a lot of memory on phones. You can stop a run at any time and keep the pages that are already finished.
