Lower quality gives a smaller file. About 80 to 90 suits most photos.

The first conversion takes a moment because the decoder is downloaded when you start. Decoding photos is slow, so large batches take a while. Metadata such as location and camera details may not be kept in the converted files.

About this tool

HEIC (also called HEIF) is the image format iPhones and iPads use for photos by default. It stores the same picture in a smaller file than JPG, which saves space on the device. The catch is compatibility: many websites, older apps, Windows programs and some print services cannot open HEIC files.

This tool converts HEIC and HEIF photos to JPG or PNG so they open almost anywhere. You can convert several photos at once and download them one by one or as a ZIP. The conversion runs inside your browser, so your photos are not uploaded to a server.

How to use it

  1. Drag HEIC photos onto the drop area, or choose them from your device. You can add up to 30 files, each up to 50 MB, and 300 MB in total.
  2. Pick JPG or PNG. For JPG, set the quality; 90 is the default.
  3. Press Convert. The decoder is downloaded the first time, then each photo is converted in turn and the list shows progress.
  4. Check the thumbnail and the new file size for each photo.
  5. Download photos one by one, or use Download all as ZIP when you have two or more.

Frequently asked questions

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. The files are read and converted on your own device by your browser. Only the converter code is downloaded; your photos never leave your device.
Should I choose JPG or PNG?
JPG gives much smaller files and suits photos, sharing and uploads. PNG is lossless, so it keeps every pixel of the decoded image, but the files are usually several times larger. Choose PNG only if you need to avoid further compression.
Why is the first conversion slow?
The HEIC decoder is a large piece of code that is downloaded only when you press Convert, so other pages stay fast. After it loads, conversion speed depends on your device and the size of each photo. Decoding is heavy work, so big batches can take a while.
Do I lose quality?
Converting to PNG does not add compression loss. JPG is a lossy format, so a small amount of detail is discarded; a higher quality value keeps more detail and gives a larger file. Your original files are never changed.
Does it convert Live Photos or videos?
No. Only still images are supported. A Live Photo is a still image plus a short video, and only the still image can be converted. If a HEIC file contains more than one image, each image is saved as its own file with a number added to the name.
Is metadata such as location kept?
Not reliably. The decoder is built for viewing and does not copy metadata such as location, date or camera details into the new file, so treat them as removed. Keep the original if you need that information.
